I searched a bit and found an article titled Why A Million People Still Play Multiplayer Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Every Month. This is not counting the MTA version which is even more popular. If we count the bots, which from experience I would say is 5-10% then these numbers are still damn impressive.
GTA SAN ANDREAS MULTI PLAYER MOD
This is a tracker for SAMP and it shows that the average player count of the less-popular mod averages 20k+ players. The two multiplayer mods, San Andreas Multiplayer(SAMP) and Multi Theft Auto(MTA) are still insanely popular given the dinosaur GTA San Andreas is. The results are surprising to say the least. The team consisted of some well known members of the GTA modding. I decided to dig deeper a bit and see how it stacks up today. San Andreas Multiplayer started life as a multiplayer modification for GTA Vice City, dubbed Vice City Multiplayer (VC:MP) towards the start of April, 2005.It was decided that VC:MP would be worked on as a codebase for SA:MP, due to the fact the upcoming San Andreas game was not released at the time the team started working. I used to play San Andreas Multiplayer almost a decade ago but since then I've long forgotten about it. Never mind, when I launched the client, it showed hundreds of servers, most of which were still very active and it honestly made me think what the fuck and how is this still a thing. Well it's not magic but it launched because the actual game is very small in size and it was directed to a exe in the same folder. Sometimes publishers take a little while to make this information available, so please check back in a few days to see if it has been updated. So, I was browsing an old folder of mine which contained old game shortcuts that I used to play and I clicked on SAMP and it magically launched. We dont have any change log information yet for version 0.3.7 of SA-MP: multiplayer mod for GTA San Andreas.
